AMGM leads EV adoption in Aurangabad along with TATA Motors

Indian automobile giant, Tata Motors is planning to invest Rs 15000 crore in the EV segment in the next five years.  Being the leader of emerging EV market, Tata Motors is planning to bring 10 more new offerings in this segment. The company had raised 1 billion USD in funding from private equity major TPG for its EV segment.

The city of Aurangabad was having very high air pollution and certain limitation were imposed by National Green Tribunal. Locals from Aurangabad have organized Aurangabad Mission for Green Mobility (AMGM), under which they have been convincing people for adopting EV. They have also worked with local administration for creating EV ecosystem.

The result of this is clear as another order for 250 EVs were placed by the residents with Tata Motors after they received a batch of 101 EVs. Nearly 400 EV charging stations have been commissioned in Maharashtra of which 15-20 are in Aurangabad itself. The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation has decided to set up nearly 200 charging stations for electric vehicles in the city by this year end.  The charging stations will mostly come up at fuel pump, malls, bus stands, railway stations, business complexes and other locations.

Tata Motor has sold 22,000 EVs and if the impact of so many vehicles were to be assessed in terms of carbon dioxide emissions, it is equivalent to planting 1.5 lakh trees. The company is currently selling Tigor and Nexon under EV variant and is expected to come up with more. The way AMGM is working towards spreading awareness, the same need to be adopted by the entire country.
